Revani (Traditional Greek Dessert)

Revani (Traditional Greek Dessert)One of the easiest recipes for this traditional Greek dessert!

Ingredients
1 glass of sunflower oil
glass of sugar
glass of thick semolina
glass of all purpose flour
glass of milk
20 gr. baking powder
6 eggs
zest and juice of 1 orange

For the syrup
3 glasses of water
glasses of sugar

Preparation
1. First we begin with the syrup. Add the water and the sugar in a casserole and place them on high heat. When it starts to boil, count 5-6 minutes and remove the casserole from the heat. Cool down the syrup.

2. Using a mixer, whisk the oil and the sugar for about 5-10 minutes.

3. Add the eggs one by one, then the zest and the juice of the orange, and whisk well for 1-2 minutes more.

4. Sieve the flour and the baking powder, and add them to the mixture. Lower the mixer's speed and gently whisk for about 1 minute (and NO more then that).

5. Add the semolina to the mixture and stir gently with a maryse until it is totaly encorporated inside the mixture.

6. Butter a deep baking dish, add the mixture inside, and bake in preheat oven at 170° C for 35-40 minutes. Meanwhile, heat the milk...

7. When the cake is baked and we take it out of the oven, first we pour the hot milk over it, and then we begin to pour gradually the syrup with a soup ladle. Always wait for the cake to absorb the syrup, before you continue adding. The whole procedure lasts for about  30-45 minutes.

8. Store the revani in the fridge when it gets cool enough.

Enjoy!
